Nonprofit Website Redesign for Pink Dynasty

Pink Dynasty is a women’s charity dedicated to empowering young women from marginalised communities through mentoring, career development programs, and financial literacy resources. As part of their 10th anniversary and newly gained charity status, they needed a complete nonprofit website redesign to better communicate their impact, increase donations, and attract volunteers.

Sam at Designthropology is a true collaborative design expert! She guided us through our website update with incredible skill and patience.

The result? A standout, mobile-friendly site that’s way better than we imagined. Sam’s advice was spot-on at every step, making the whole process smooth and enjoyable. We’re over the moon with our new site and can’t recommend Designthropology enough. Thanks, Sam, for bringing our vision to life!

The Need

The previous website was outdated, lacked modern design elements, and was difficult to navigate. To align with their updated branding and goals, Pink Dynasty needed a charity website design that was professional, easy to manage, and optimised for a range of audiences.

Target Demographics

The first task in this project was to identify what different audiences want from the PD website. We mapped different types of website visitors to their need states on a spectrum to prioritise content.

Primary audience:  Young women aged 18-23 from marginalised and minority backgrounds.

Secondary audience: Women at any stage of their careers, corporate sponsors, individual donors, and volunteers.

Client Requirements

  • Mobile first design.
  • New sections for mentee testimonials, impact stats, and collaborations.
  • Easy-to-update templates.
  • Resource hub for career tips and tools.
  • Consistent branding using black and white with pink accents.
  • SEO-friendly structure and improved user experience.
  • No pop-ups or grayscale images. Incorporate the new brand identity, with a bold and uplifting design conveying a modern, inclusive image.

Problems and Challenges

  • User Experience Issues: The previous site had inconsistent visuals, poor navigation, and limited interactive elements.
  • SEO and Performance: The site lacked optimisation for search engines, accessibility, and mobile users.
  • Platform Limitations: Initially, the client considered Google Sites for its cost-effectiveness, but it was restrictive in terms of customisation and SEO.
  • Technical Barriers: Outdated PHP versions and missing configurations impacted functionality.
  • Delayed SEO Implementation: Firewall issues hindered SEO setup, resolved by whitelisting the app.

The Solution

To meet these requirements, I implemented a custom WordPress website design using a mobile-first approach and optimised the site for speed and accessibility.

Features Implemented

  • Responsive website design for charities, ensuring the site adapts seamlessly to all devices. Mobile-First Prototypes shared for client feedback and iteration.
  • Integrated a nonprofit SEO strategy using targeted keywords, competitor analysis, and structured content.
  • Created dedicated resource pages for women at various career stages, with easy navigation and interactive elements to boost engagement.
  • Migrated Site to a cost-effective hosting plan, saving 50%.
  • Redesigned User Journey for a streamlined, intuitive experience.
  • Developed a dynamic resource hub for career development, making it easy for women to access tools and resources.
  • Collaborated with Imperial College Students for market research and SEO insights.
  • Nonprofit SEO strategy: Conducted keyword research and implemented SEO best practices, resulting in improved search rankings.

The website launched in October 2024, with a fresh, professional look and seamless navigation resulting in a more engaging, user-friendly, and visually compelling site that communicates the mission and impact of Pink Dynasty.

The new site is optimised for SEO, easy to update, and aligned with the charity’s long-term goals.

Key enhancements include:

  • Modern, Minimalist Design: A clean interface featuring bespoke graphics and highly legible typography.
  • Streamlined User Experience: Reduced clicks and integrated sub-menus for easy navigation.
  • SEO Upgrades: Replaced Yoast SEO with Rank Math, providing advanced keyword tracking and insights.
  • Security Improvements: Implemented robust site security to safeguard user data.
  • Impactful Call-to-Action: Added a contact form on the homepage to drive mentorship program engagement.

With the site now live, the team anticipates increases in:

  • Website traffic and session duration – improved engagement.

  • Stronger partnerships with corporate sponsors and donors.
